CBK Park Halfpipe Competition
Photos by PSE
TANNERSVILLE— On Saturday January 16, 2010, Camelback Mountain Resort hosted its in-house CBK Halfpipe Competition that featured an open jam format at the Grove Halfpipe.
Alex Stackhouse, from Lewisburg, said, “I like the airtime. I compete all over the East Coast, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, and Western PA. You have to concentrate on holding your edge because it translates to speed. The higher you go the easier it is to spot your landing and get your body adjusted. I like the park so I also do slopestyle. To stay in shape I do wall sits and squats.”
Event winner, Dan Genditzki (yellow jacket), from Bedford, PA, is at Camelback for the first time. “The halfpipe is my favorite competition. I like being above the lip, and have people walking by and flying right by them. There’s a lot of adrenaline. The pipe here is good, they did a great job. I used to compete in everything but now I stick to halfpipe. Last night I was at Whitetail but they switched it to a handrail competition at the last minute.”
Genditzki added, “The hardest thing about the halfpipe is your approach to the walls, the way you pull your knees up. People who are good at carving would usually have good edge control.”
Lexi Sinor, from Long Beach Island, New Jersey, said, “I compete a lot, it was really nice today. It feels like you’re flying. I caught my edge last year and got a concussion but I practiced a lot, strengthen my legs, and now I don’t do that anymore. I also play soccer and kiteboard.”
Prizes were donated by The Loft, Camelback Mountain Resort, and the Ski Shop Consignment Program. For more information visit www.skicamelback.com/.

Family Races at Alpine Mountain
Photos by Pocono Sports Extra
ANALOMINK, PA — Run under the auspices of race director Al Witt, the Family Fun Races at Alpine Mountain are exactly that — FUN for the entire family! Kids like racing because it’s fun for both snowboarders and skiers. It’s also a chance for kids to beat his or her parent’s time down the slope.
Jodi Witt, Al’s daughter, said, “We do it for the families. I started 21 years ago and I’ve seen kids grow up. One of the girls I taught to race 18 years ago is now a USAA coach at Tahoe. We had kids that took first and second at Seven Springs last week and they started here. You feel special. I went down south for a few years working for the DuPont Company, now I live in Quebec. We drove down from Quebec today to be here. My brother Allen has been helping my dad.”
Alpine Mountain is the friendliest, family fun place in the Poconos. There’s a variety of challenging terrain and a beginner friendly learning area that makes Alpine the perfect place for kids and adults learning to ski or ride. Snowtubing is also a great adventure. The full service lodge has a cafeteria, pizza parlor, ski shop, rental and repair shops, and Certified Ski School.
Ski School Director, Dan Rusk, said, “It’s been a good season with great conditions, cold weather with sunny days. We will have 30-40 kids racing a day on weekends until mid-March.”
